Scout collecting old flags for disposal

Jack Broadbent, a member of Boy Scout Troop 211, is collecting battered flags for a retirement ceremony later this month.

The 17-year-old will discard of the flags properly by burning them at the Boulder City Fire Station for his Eagle Scout project.

Flags can be dropped off at the Boulder Dam Credit Union, 530 Avenue G, American National Insurance, 833 Nevada Hwy., Suite 4, and the Churches of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1550 Buchanan Blvd. or 810 Arrowhead Trail.

Rainbow Girls plan spaghetti dinner

The Rainbow Girls of Boulder Assembly No. 8 will host a spaghetti dinner at 6 p.m., Sept. 19, at the Boulder City Masonic Temple.

Tickets are $6 or two for $13 and proceeds will benefit the Guide Dogs of America Foundation. The dinner will also feature gift grab bags and raffles.

The International Order of Rainbow Girls is an organization for girls between ages 11 and 20. The organization is part of the Masonic family and strives to teach the value of service to other.

Miss Boulder City organizers to meet

The organizers of the Miss Boulder City pageant will hold an informational meeting at 3:30 p.m., Sept 27, at the Boulder Dam Hotel Tea Room.

Anyone interested in helping to organize and run the 2009 Miss Boulder City pageant is welcome to attend. Due to the growth of the pageant the organization is in need of more directors and organizers.

See Spot Run to hold 2nd annual poker run

The 2nd annual See Spot Poker Run, benefiting the Boulder City Dog Center will take place from 5-9:30 p.m., Oct. 11.

To participate purchase a game card for $20 at Milo’s, Tony’s, The Other Side, Boulder Dam Brewery, Big Horn, Backstop or Evan’s. Then visit all the locations for additional draws. Participants will turn in cards at Boulder Dam Brewery.

High and low winners will receive gift cards from participating merchants.

Lecture to explore McKeeversville

A talk on McKeeversville will kick off a new lecture series at the Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum at 6 p.m. Sept. 18 at the museum inside the Boulder Dam Hotel.

Peter Huntoon, a retired geology and geophysics professor from the University of Wyoming, will talk about the early settlement for Hoover Dam workers.

Now a Boulder City resident, Huntoon has maintained the River Mountain Trail through Boulder City since 2003. He found part of McKeeversville while maintaining the trail.

Huntoon also will lead an interpretive hike on the trail at 9 a.m. Sept. 21. Those who attend the lecture may register for the hike at the museum.

Managers tapped for conservation

Bureau of Reclamation employees, John Swett and Laura Vecerina, have been selected as manager and deputy manager for the Lower Colorado River Multi-Species Conservation Program.

Swett has been employed with the Bureau of Reclamation for 16 years and Vecerina has been with the agency for 20 years.

The Lower Colorado River Multi-Species Conservation Program was implemented in 2005 and is a 50-year partnership between federal and non-federal stakeholders.

The program was established in response to the need to balance the use of the lower Colorado River water resources with the conservation of native species and their habitats in compliance with the Endangered Species Act.
