Charity tournament gives locals a chance to golf with the pros

The 14th annual Danny Gans' Partee Fore Kids will be held Nov. 1 to 3. The event has raised more than $1.1 million for The First Tee of Southern Nevada and the Danny Gans Junior Golf Academy.

The event is open to the public and gives golfers the opportunity to mingle with celebrities.

Past contestants have included PGA Tour player and Henderson resident Craig Barlow, NBA Hall of Famer Rick Barry, six-time major championship winner Nick Faldo, baseball Hall of Famer Rollie Fingers and a host of others.

The event features a reception at the Mirage, a celebrity poker tournament, celebrity Pro-Am at DragonRidge Country Club and Danny Gans' Partee.

The Gans Junior Golf Academy is open to children ages 6 to 17 and provides instruction in the fundamentals of golf and in life skills.

Rebels finish second at season opening event

The UNLV men's golf team finished second at the season opening Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational played at the Eisenhower Golf Club's Blue Course at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The Rebels shot a three round total of 16-under-par 848 to finish 11 shots behind champion Colorado State who broke the tournament scoring record with a 27-under-par total of 837.

Junior Eddie Olson led the Rebels at 7-under-par 209 to finish third. Junior Brett Kanda and sophomore Ji Moon also finished in the top 10. Kanda finished eighth at 2-under-par and Moon tied for ninth at 1-under.

The Rebels, ranked 22nd in the nation, will be back in action at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate Sept. 26-27 in Albuquerque, N.M.
