Updated Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008 | 6:25 p.m.

Metro Police homicide detectives are on the scene of a residence near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Owens Avenue where firefighters found a dead body after putting out a bedroom blaze.

Police said detectives are investigating whether the person may have been killed during a robbery or a home invasion as well as other causes.

Las Vegas Fire Department firefighters responded to a report of a bedroom fire this afternoon and discovered the body after the fire was doused, said Tim Szymanski, fire department spokesman.

Firefighters discovered smoke coming from a residence at 1409 J Street and put the fire out, Szymanski said.

The body of a person was discovered in a bedroom, Szymanski said.

The identity of the person and a cause of death will be determined by the Clark County coroner's office.
