Event to raise money for heart foundation

The Children's Heart Foundation will host Light Up the Heart of a Child 6-9 p.m. Nov. 12 at Sunset Park's annual Gift of Lights.

The Gift of Lights is a drive-through display of more than 8 million holiday lights. On Nov. 12, the park will be open to pedestrian access and will include carolers and holiday treats.

Proceeds will benefit children in Nevada who are living with heart conditions.

Advance tickets are available at www.chfn.org for $25. Admission at the door is $30. Children younger than 12 are admitted free. For more information call 967-3522.

Viva Bike Vegas to help at-risk students

Viva Bike Vegas, to benefit the Las Vegas chapter of the After-School All-Stars, will begin at 6:30 a.m. Oct. 25 at the Regional Transportation Commission Administration Building, 600 S. Grand Central Parkway.

After-School All-Stars provide at-risk youth with after-school programs to build confidence and self-esteem.

The event will feature 118-mile, 50-mile and 25-mile bike rides.

Entry fees range from $25 to $65 for those who register by Oct. 1. A free 5-mile family ride will also take place.

Annual Safe Place Golf Classic set

The Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth will host the second annual Safe Place Golf Classic at 7 a.m. Oct. 27 at the Wildhorse Golf Club.

Costs range from $175 for an individual golfer to $10,000 sponsorships. A banquet will follow to honor donors.

SPCA holds Family Fur & Fun Festival

Pet lovers of all ages will come together at Summerlin Centre Community Park for the 2nd Annual Family Fur & Fun Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 11.

The park is at 1800 S. Town Centre Drive between Charleston Boulevard and Sahara Avenue.

The free event will be hosted by the Nevada SPCA, a no-kill animal sanctuary. The Fur & Fun Festival is designed to educate visitors about the importance of spaying and neutering pets as well as the importance of microchipping and pet tags.

Copies of the Nevada SPCA's humane education DVD and corresponding workbook will also be distributed at the event.

The festival will also include food, live music, dog-training tips and advice on how to properly care for rabbits, hamsters and guinea pigs.

Pets are welcomed, but it is advised that guests do not bring pets who are stressed by large crowds. Leashes will be required at all times.

Bichon rescue group to hold picnic

The 4th annual Bichon Picnic is set for Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Gardens Park near the Las Vegas Beltway and Town Center Drive in Summerlin.

The picnic benefits Small Paws Rescue, a non-profit Bichon and Bichon-mix dog rescue group.
