WHEN: 7-10 p.m. Sept. 19

INFO: 739-3267 or www.unlvtickets.com

Lovers of food and wine are invited to the inaugural UNLV Wine Affair Sept. 19 at Green Valley Ranch Resort and Spa, where they will have a chance to learn something new about high-end vintage wines.

Representatives from 20 wine companies will teach attendees about their wines, including the wine's characteristics and why it is higher quality and costs more. A master sommelier will be available to give guided tours of Green Valley Ranch's two vineyards and discuss vineyard management. An expert from DeLuca Liquor & Wine will discuss "breathable" stemware and wine decanting.

"The big difference between this wine event and the other wine events is that we're going to put emphasis on high-end wine education," said Mohsen Azizsoltani, UNLV professor of food and beverage and UNLVino director for 14 years.

Azizsoltani said he expects about 400 people to attend the wine affair. Beyond wine, guests will be treated to food courtesy of Hank's and Terraverde as well as live entertainment. At 9 p.m., a silent auction will be held, featuring items such as a trip to Napa Valley or spa and golf packages.

Proceeds from the event will go toward scholarships and activities for Hotel Management students at UNLV.
