Building under construction catches fire

A building under construction caught fire today just before 3 p.m., said Tim Szymanski, spokesman for the Las Vegas Fire Department.

Construction workers doused the flames on the second floor of a building under construction at Rampart Way and Alta Drive, Szymanski said.

There were no injuries, Szymanski said. Damage is minimal and confined to the single floor, he said.

Some electrical insulation and tools burned in the fire, he said.

There was no impact on traffic in the area, Szymanski said.

The dispatch center received several calls of black smoke in the sky, Szymanski said.
