Nye deputy recovering from shooting in Las Vegas hospital

A Nye County sheriff's deputy, Eric Murphy, is recovering today after he was shot during a domestic violence call this morning at a recreational vehicle resort in Pahrump, about 60 miles west of Las Vegas.

Murphy and the suspect, who was shot in the leg by other Nye County deputies and detectives, were airlifted to University Medical Center at about 2 a.m. today. The deputy was said to be in critical condition, but medical staff found that no vital organs had been hit.

Deputies responded to a domestic violence call at the Terrible's Lakeside RV Resort. Murphy was shot twice in the back, despite wearing a bullet-proof vest.

Undersheriff Rick Marshall didn't release the name of the suspect.

After treatment the suspect is expected to be taken to the Nye County Jail, where he will face charges of attempted murder and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.
