Man wanted in councilman’s death arrested in Vegas

A man wanted in connection with the death of a city councilman in California was arrested Saturday in Las Vegas.

The U.S. Marshal's Service said Henry Don Williams, 32, was wanted in the death of Fairfield, Calif., city councilman Matt Garcia. Authorities said Garcia was shot and killed Sept. 1 in Fairfield as he stood next to a car talking with a friend.

After learning that Williams might be in Las Vegas, investigators tracked him down working at a restaurant in the area of Paradise Road and Harmon Avenue.

Williams was arrested without incident inside the restaurant and is awaiting extradition to California at the Clark County Detention Center.

Investigators said Williams and another man, Gene Allen Combs, 45, drove to the 5000 block of Silverado Drive in Fairfield to collect a drug debt. Williams then exited the vehicle and shot Garcia in the head before leaving the scene with Combs, the U.S. Marshal's Office said.

Garcia died at a nearby hospital. Police aren't sure why Garcia was targeted but said there is no indication he was involved in drug activity.
