Autumn arrives, but summer-like temperatures remain

Get the sweaters and long-sleeved shirts ready — autumn officially arrives today at 8:44 a.m.

But you probably won't need those fall clothes just yet. Weather conditions in Las Vegas will continue to feel like summer this week.

Today's forecast calls for a high of 91, with sunny skies and a west-southwest wind around 8 mph, becoming northerly, according to the National Weather Service.

Tonight's forecast is a little more fall-like, with temperatures dipping down to 67 degrees, with an east wind at 7 mph, switching over to the west-northwest.

The rest of week will be somewhat similar, with highs in the 90s and lows in the high 60s and low 70s.

Today's expected high of 91 is just shy of the normal high for today of 92 degrees. The record high for today is 104 degrees, set in 1949.

Today's morning low as 72 degrees. The normal low for today is 67 degrees, with the record low of 51, set in 1944.

The autumnal equinox occurs at 8:44 a.m. today, when the sun is directly over the earth's equator. During an equinox, nights and days are approximately the same length. After today, nights will be getting longer and days will get shorter until the winter solstice, which occurs this year on Dec. 21. Then days will gradually get longer again.
