Letter to the editor:

Vote based on qualifications, not prejudice

I was saddened and dismayed to read an Associated Press story about the results of a poll by the AP and Yahoo News, conducted with Stanford University. It found that racial prejudice continues to exist in many voters to the extent that it could adversely affect Sen. Barack Obama’s election possibilities.

It would be patently unfair to make a selection in voting based on race rather than on qualifications such as education, experience, knowledge and positions on matters of great importance to our nation and its relations with the international community. I plead with my fellow voters of both major parties and independents to look and listen carefully to the candidates for president and vice president of the United States in the forthcoming debates. Then on Nov. 4 vote for the candidates whom you judge to be the best choices to lead our country during the next four years.
