Hot afternoons in the forecast

Don't shut your air conditioner off just yet for the season — some Las Vegas neighborhoods could get some near triple-digit heat this week.

The National Weather Service's forecast calls for temperatures to climb into the high 90s this week, even approaching 100 degrees on Thursday.

But this morning, temperatures were decidely more fall-like. At 6 a.m., McCarran International Airport reported a temperature dipping down to 68 degrees, with calm winds and clear skies.

Temperatures will climb to 95 degrees by this afternoon, with clear skies and calm winds between 5 and 8 mph, the weather service says.

The average high temperature for today's date is 91 degrees, and the record high of 106 degrees was set in 1947. Today's normal low is 66 degrees, with the record low of 45 degrees set in 1941.

Tonight's temperatures are expected to drop to a low around 71 degrees, with west southwest winds between 3 and 6 mph, according to the weather service.

The forecast calls for a high of 97 degrees Thursday, which means some neighborhoods could experience 100 degrees during the day.

Thursday's overnight low will be 73 degrees.

Hot weather continues on Friday, with a high reaching 96 degrees, according to the weather service.
