Charges filed against Las Vegas man for assault with a vehicle

A Las Vegas man has been arrested on federal assault charges after allegedly ramming his car into a U.S. Immigration and Customs detention officer who was approaching his vehicle.

Lon Allen Clark, 29, has been charged with assaulting, resisting and impeding officers, said Greg Brower, U.S. Attorney for Nevada.

Clark was arrested on Tuesday in Las Vegas by the Criminal Apprehension Team (CAT), assisted by Metro Police detectives, FBI and ICE agents and Henderson Police in the northeast part of the Las Vegas Valley.

On Sept. 17 several U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention officers were investigating a fugitive on San Marcos Street in Las Vegas when they saw a parked Honda Accord with a man sitting in the driver's seat.

The officers thought the man in the car might be linked to their investigation, so one officer pulled his SUV in front of the Honda and turned on his emergency lights. A second ICE vehicle pulled up behind the first and turned on its lights.

An ICE officer left the SUV and approached the Honda on foot. The ICE officer had his badge visible, hanging from a lanyard around his neck. The man in the Honda then drove directly into the ICE officer, hitting him and the SUV he had been driving. The officer fired his gun several times at the vehicle before it drove away, striking another vehicle across the street.

Metro Police later found the Honda abandoned with bullet holes in the front and driver's side window and investigating officers and agents said they think Clark was the driver.
