There's no doubt in the mind of the seniors on the Boulder City High girls golf team that they can win every 3A Southern League match.

"It's going really good for us right now," senior Ashley Vince said. "I think we have a real good chance to do that."

The Eagles improved their record in league matches to 4-0 with a win at Boulder Creek Golf Club on Sept. 18.

"If they keep playing like this, they very well could win every time out," Boulder City coach Regina Quintero said.

Boulder City shot a 362 on the 18-hole, par-72 course — 35 strokes better than second place Virgin Valley's 392. Pahrump Valley shot a 403 and Faith Lutheran had a 432. Moapa Valley did not participate.

Vince led the Eagles with an 86 to finish in third place. Senior Margot Potter was fourth with an 87.

Pahrump Valley's Ashley Keller won medalist honors with an 83.

"We're a good team. We don't depend on just one player," Potter said.

Boys soccer on a roll

After starting 0-2, Boulder City's boys soccer has posted four straight wins.

"We're playing well right now and it's showing," Boulder City coach David Nilsen said. "We're young, but guys are coming together really quick."

The Eagles defeated White Pine 1-0 on Sept. 20 to follow up a 3-1 win against The Meadows on Sept. 16 and a 5-0 win at Moapa Valley on Sept. 11. They beat Moapa Valley again, 5-0 on Sept. 23.

Senior Brad Nilsen scored the Eagles lone goal against White Pine midway through the first half. Junior midfielder Hector Ortiz earned the assist and goalkeeper senior Mitchell Lyons made five saves to earn the shutout.

Boulder City's girls team also defeated Moapa Valley, 8-0 on Sept. 23 to follow up a 3-0 win against White Pine on Sept. 20. Sophomore Carly Wiesenborn, juniors Melissa Stewart and Marquela Waldo scored for the Eagles. Junior Goalie Jessie Forrester earned the shutout.

Boulder City also tied Pahrump Valley 1-1 on Sept. 16. Senior forward Karis Barton scored the Eagles goal.

Lundgren continues to lead runners

Boulder City junior Matt Lundgren showed why he'll be a contender for the 3A state title when he took first at the Laughlin Invitational Sept. 20.

He won the 3.1 mile race in 17 minutes, 26 seconds to lead the Eagles to a second place finish.

Boulder City had three other runners place in the top 10. Taylor Clifford was fourth in 18:07, Michael Kelso was seventh in 18:43 and Daniel Edmondson took eighth in 19:10.

Boulder City tied Faith Lutheran for first, but was awarded second place on the tie-breaking sixth-runner rule.

"Matt continues to compete with the leaders, Taylor is getting better each week and Michael had a good solid race," Boulder City coach Joe Ringen said. "We matched up well with Faith, Moapa, and Virgin Valley."

Senior Sara Richner led the girls team with a fourth place finish in 23:53 at Laughlin. The rest of the team included freshman Lue Tobler in 35th place in 27:56 and Sarah Leedom taking 51st place in 30:25.

The girls did not earn a team score.

Tennis season nearing an end

With just two matches left in the regular season, Boulder City High tennis coach Eric Speaker is trying to keep his team motivated.

"There's no senior girls and five freshman so if they stick with it, they're going to get better," Speaker said.

The girls team is winless in its eight matches, while the boys ended a three-match losing streak by defeating Southeast Technical and Career Academy 13-5 on Sept. 16 for its third win of the season.

The girls team could not pull off a similar achievement and fell to Tech, 16-2.

The Eagles boys couldn't maintain their momentum and lost to Green Valley High 13-5 on Sept. 18, while the girls lost 17-1.

The final two matches are Sept. 25 against Silverado and Sept. 29 at Foothill, before the Sunrise Regional tournament, which begins Oct. 9.

The Eagles will send a doubles team and a singles player for each of the boys and girls tournament.

"This is something that I want them to play for and earn as a reward," Speaker said. "It's what I'm using to keep them motivated at the end of the season."
