Letters to the editor

It's time for the government to pay up

EDITOR:

Just a note to thank Co-Publisher Colleen O'Callaghan-Miele for her excellent article on Sept. 11 ("It's assessment time for government"). I couldn't agree with her more.

To have the government pay back the monies due Social Security would be a good beginning.

Please continue to enlighten the public regarding our health care and what we might be forced to live with if socialized medicine is forced down our throats.

There are changes that need to be made

EDITOR:

I just read Co-Publisher Colleen O'Callaghan-Miele's column (Sept. 11, "It's assessment time for government") and am so grateful that she wrote it. Every time someone mentions socialized health care, I get upset.

Years ago, when traveling in England, I had asked our tour guide how well socialized medicine was working and what her opinion of it was. She told me that it wasn't. Her daughter was pregnant and didn't get to see a doctor until the end of her eighth month. It was fortunate that there were no problems with the pregnancy, as it would have been too late by that time to do anything about it. She also said that the wealthy still went to private physicians. The middle- and lower-income people were subject to inadequate care, and the hospitals were understaffed, with inferior equipment. The waiting list for most cancer patients was so long most people died or went to another country and paid out of pocket.

I pray that we never have socialized medicine. There has to be a better way to make health care available to everyone. Something has to change with our government. Our Congress is a joke! Did you read in Time magazine about all of the frivolous bills they passed? When the reporter asked this congressman why they wasted time with bills that were utterly ridiculous, he said, "Well, we had to do something to fill the time."

What are we electing? A government of self-serving, asinine people with political dementia?
