Those of you who regularly attend the Senior Center know that we provide myriad activities throughout the week during our normal hours of operation, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. In addition, some outside organizations use our facility after hours.

Some members recently started playing cards here once a week in the evening. A few different people have approached me to inquire about evening activities and using the center.

We have a beautiful, spacious building that can accommodate more than one activity at a time, and we want our members to enjoy it as much as possible. Realizing that fewer seniors are actually fully retired and may be working past 3 p.m., we invite you to access our facility after hours.

I encourage any member who would like to start up an activity group to come and see me so we may begin to publicize the activity and get a group of like-minded individuals together for some fun in the evenings.

I know that many people no longer drive after dark, and this may limit your ability to be out and about. But remember that our transportation program runs until 8 p.m. during the week. If there is a request for an activity that runs past 8 p.m. and enough people are interested, we are able to be flexible to provide transportation a little later in the evening.

The good thing about having our own Senior Center is that we can do what the membership wants.

Art in the Park

You may have read in last week's paper that the Senior Center of Boulder City will be assisting the Boulder City Hospital to provide transportation for Art in the Park. Some have questioned why we would want to do that.

Here is my reasoning: Boulder City is a unique community in that nonprofit agencies provide many of services that are normally provided by state or county agencies. I believe that all of the nonprofits need to support and coordinate with each other as much as possible.

If we all work together, we will strengthen ourselves and each other, which ultimately results in better services for the community.

Reminder

Registration for grants begins Oct. 1. Your cooperation is appreciated while we collect information on all of the people we serve to fulfill our grant requirements.

Immunizations against flu will be given at the Senior Center from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 7, sponsored by the Boulder City Hospital.
