Summer temperatures in forecast to end week

The Las Vegas Valley isn't expected to break any records, but thermometers around the area could hit 100 degrees today and tomorrow, the National Weather Service said.

Normally daytime highs run in the lower 90s at this time of year, but with forecasts calling for temperatures to run five to eight degrees above normal, today's range is 98 degrees to 100 degrees, the weather service said.

And the higher temps will stay through Friday, when more clouds and possibly breezy conditions may lower the mercury a degree or two.

The calendar may show it's autumn, but the thermometer spells a last splurge of summer-like heat.

While weekend temperatures will hover in the mid to upper 90s, by the middle of next week Las Vegas could taste cooler temperatures and perhaps a hint of rain.
