Wurstfest to raise money for high school grads, charity

Wurstfest returns Sept. 27 with the usual beer, brats and bands in Wilbur Square.

Sunrise Rotary Club's 12th annual daylong fundraiser features its traditional attractions — the Hustlers car show, silent and live auctions, bands The Dummkopfs and Tommy Rocker and a never-ending line behind the grill.

The club last year raised $80,000 at the event. It spent $30,000 of that on the annual all-night party for Boulder City High School seniors on graduation night, Rotarian Rich Baughman said. The party is designed to keep the seniors away from parties that involve alcohol, and the WurstFest is the primary fundraiser to pay for it.

Proceeds beyond what are needed for the party have gone to Emergency Aid of Boulder City, local schools and Christmas shopping trips for Boys & Girls Club children.

Also that Saturday will be the 16th annual Goodstuff Garage Sale in Lake Mountain Estates.

About 35 residents hawk hand-me-downs from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the massive simultaneous sale, said organizer Gina Nixon.
