Letter to the editor:

McCain clear choice based on his record

In response to Donald Ross’ Monday letter about John McCain voters:

Mr. Ross speaks of the financial woes we are going through without citing where they stem from. They stem from both parties, but primarily from Democratic-controlled administrations or Congress.

We all want what’s best for our country. We are facing a war with terrorists more challenging than any in our history.

Forget all the political ads from the parties. We all know they are written by campaign managers. Look at the person’s history, not all the stuff on TV.

On one hand we have a man, a true patriot and hero, who knows the worst horrors a war can bring, who is also a rebel who will fight for what is right regardless. On the other hand we have an unproven, inexperienced man with questionable past associates and affiliations and not the slightest idea of what war is.

It’s not about race. Barack Obama is no Colin Powell. I would’ve voted for Powell a long time ago had he been running.

Also, we keep hearing about Sarah Palin’s being “only a heartbeat away” from being president. But did anyone watch the GOP convention? McCain’s 96-year-old mother was introduced and looked at least 20 years younger. Longevity is said to be hereditary, so what’s the big deal?

As to McCain’s physical limitations, remember, FDR was in a wheelchair, the victim of polio, and was reelected to a fourth term during World War II.

I hope that sheds some light on why I will vote for McCain.
