virt(UNLV): Rebels take back Fremont Cannon with 33-25 virtual victory over Wolf Pack

The virtual Fremont Cannon is red once again, as the Rebels overcame a 17-0 first quarter deficit to go on to defeat UNR, 33-25.

Unfortunately for the cannon, a swarm of rowdy, poorly rendered fans damaged the trophy during the post-game celebration.

Virtual Omar Clayton used his legs, rather than his arm to propel the Rebels to victory, running for 60 yards and 3 touchdowns on 10 carries.

However, Clayton’s 130-pass streak without an interception came to a disastrous end as the quarterback threw four picks in the game, one of which was returned 85-yards for a touchdown in the first quarter.

Virtual Colin Kaepernick managed to have more success completing 22 out of 31 passes for 187 yards and two touchdowns.

He connected with tight end Virgil Green on the Wolf Pack’s second possession for a 26-yard touchdown strike to put UNR up 10-0. However, Kaepernick would then throw three interceptions before getting his second touch down of the game.

Kaepernick’s most crucial error came with 4:30 left in the first half. After the Rebels settled for field goals on back-to-back possessions, the Wolf Pack set up on the 30 looking to extend their 11-point lead. Kaepernick threw the drive’s first past deep down the right side to receiver Mike McCoy. However, Rebel free safety Terrance Lee stepped in front of McCoy for the pick and ran the ball back to the 22-yard line.

The return would later set up a 1-yard touchdown-scoring run by Clayton to make the score 17-13 in favor of the Wolf Pack.

Despite the momentum changing score, the Rebels were dealt a huge blow when virtual Frank Summers left the field with an injury on the following possession, but virtual Channing Trotter, filled his pixilated shoes well, running for 73-yards on 21 carries.

Clayton then took the game on his shoulders. He would find his second rushing touchdown of the game right before half time when he capped an 11 play 60-yard drive with a 3-yard rushing touchdown with just 14 seconds left in the half. Kyle Watson’s extra point put the Rebels up 20-17 going into the locker room.

The virtual Rebel defense sealed the deal in the second half, coming up with three turnovers and conceding only 19 rushing yards in the game.

Virtual Watson kicked two more field goals in the second half, and Clayton capped an 11 play 83-yard drive with a 1-yard quarterback sneak into the end zone.

UNR would come up with a consolation score with 1:40 left in the game when Kaepernick threw a 3-yard pass to McCoy in the end zone on fourth and goal. Kaepernick would go to McCoy again for the 2-point conversion but it was too little too late.
