Court upholds murder conviction

CARSON CITY -- The Nevada Supreme Court has rejected the latest appeal of Kenshawn James Maxey, who is sentenced to life in prison without parole for the killing of bartender Salvatore Zendano Jr. during a robbery of the O’Aces Bar and Grill in Las Vegas.

The court denied Maxey's claims that his attorneys at trial and during his first appeal were ineffective and that his convictions should be overturned.

Maxey was also convicted of second-degree murder in the killing of his fellow robber Lawshawn Levi. In all, Maxey, who turns 28 on Oct. 5, was convicted of 15 charges, including robbery, battery, kidnapping and use of a deadly weapon.

He is confined at the Nevada State Prison in Carson City.
