Henderson scammer acts naturally

After years of trying to hack it as a musician, Henderson man Andy James got a new gig: Wire fraud, with the intent to furnish his house.

He was sentenced last week to 3 1/2 years in prison and ordered to pay almost $91,000 in restitution -- enough to buy a lot of popcorn, even at movie theater prices.

According to court documents, James posed as an employee of Paramount Pictures and contacted businesses around the country soliciting goods in return for product placements in a major upcoming movie. Working this way, James convinced a Colorado spa seller to send him a $9,000 stainless steal bathtub -- though this was only one item in a much larger list.

James hustled up about $285,000 in home furnishings, according to the Associated Press.

Court documents reveal James also promised product placements in return for construction equipment, appliances, home theater equipment and wine from a Washington winery.

James told his victims his movie was to be entitled, fittingly, "The World is My Stage."
