Students evacuated during school bus fire

Fire in an engine compartment of a Clark County School District bus late this afternoon forced the evacuation of 60 students.

There were no injuries during the incident, which occurred in the 1300 block of West Owens Avenue near Martin Luther King Boulevard, said Las Vegas Fire Department spokesman Tim Szymanski.

Flames damaged the engine compartment, Szymanski said. The students were from Advanced Technologies Academy.

After the fire was extinguished, a hazardous materials unit was called to contain a leak of diesel fuel, Szymanski said.

School district police took care of the students.
