A Boulder City woman charged with reckless and aggressive driving in connection with a May 18 crash on U.S. 93 pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Boulder City Municipal Court.

Ashley Lombardi, 28, entered the plea before Municipal Judge Pro Tem Kurt P. Schulke on the felony counts of reckless driving and aggressive driving and on two misdemeanor counts of battery and one of failure to maintain a travel lane.

Police allege that just before 11 a.m. May 18, Ward Laughlin, 65, of Boulder City, passed the red Honda CRV being driven by Lombardi on U.S. 93 near the overpass for U.S. 95.

The Honda maneuvered around Laughlin, who was driving a gold Chevrolet Impala, then swerved at it, clipping it, Boulder City police said. Both vehicles went into the median, said police, who described it as a road rage incident.

Laughlin said his vehicle rolled five times and he and his wife, Kathleen, 63, were knocked unconscious. When he came to, he said, the windshield was pressed against his face and the roof was against his head. His wife’s head knocked out a side window, he said.

Both were wearing seat belts, he said, and he credits that and the sturdy build of the Impala with saving their lives.

“I was kind of shocked over what happened,” he said. “You don’t expect something like this.”

Schulke set a pre-trial date of Oct. 27 for Lombardi to appear in Municipal Court again and assigned a court-appointed attorney.

Lombardi declined comment after the hearing.
