The first trip to the Sunrise Regional tournament turned out to be a brief trip for the Boulder City High girls bowling team.

But Eagles coach Rodney Ball said it is an experience that will benefit the team next season.

"I'm quite optimistic for next year, because they're only sophomores and juniors. They tried to rise to the occasion, but just couldn't do it," he said.

The Eagles faced Southeast Career Technical Academy on Feb. 13 in the quarterfinal round of the tournament at The Orleans. Boulder City fell 9-0 (1,927-1,695) as Tech advanced to the region semifinals on Tuesday

Junior Dannielle Thompson was the high scorer for the Eagles, rolling a career high 210 in the second game to finish with a 496 series.

"I was happy to beat my career high of 202, and hopefully, we'll keep getting better," Thompson said.

Tech opened the match by winning the first game 648-542. In the second game, Tech's Ashley Langston bowled a 213 to lead them to a 664-585 win and a 4-0 overall lead. Tech completed the sweep with a 615-568 win in the third game and also won on pin count.

This was the first playoff experience for the five girls on the team and Ball said they were not ready for the pressure.

"I don't think they grasped how to deal with it. They're exhausted mentally, but I saw a lot of character from them. They'll do better next year," Ball said.

Sophomore Katie Barbee had the team's second highest score with a 462 series, followed by junior Sandy Harper at 419 and senior Cassidy Steven with a 318. Junior Ariel Anders was the team's alternate.

Ball was pleased to see the team reach the playoffs after losing three of the first five matches to start the season.

"They did a great job in getting here going from sixth place to third. They worked hard and have a lot of potential," he said.
