Las Vegas pilot identified in small plane crash

A Las Vegas man who died Tuesday in the crash of a small plane that took off from North Las Vegas Airport and went down near St. George, Utah, has been identified.

The St. George Spectrum newspaper identified the victim as Gary Logan of Las Vegas. He was piloting the single-engine Piper Meridian when it crashed into an embankment about 20 miles west of St. George.

Logan owned the aircraft involved in the crash and often flew it between the North Las Vegas Airport and Cedar City.

Logan formerly owned Acura of Las Vegas, an auto dealership. He is survived by a wife and two sons.

The small aircraft was flying from North Las Vegas to Cedar City early Tuesday when it dropped off radar near Ivins, Utah, about 9 a.m., Mountain Daylight Time.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office said the wreckage, strewn near Beaver Dam Wash, led investigators to use the serial number of the plane to identify the pilot.

A plane sent by the Civil Air Patrol located the crash site early Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are expected to arrive at the site this afternoon.
