BOULDER CITY:

Roofing truck slams through fence, no one injured

Hemenway Park

A runaway truck loaded with roofing materials crashed into the ball field fence at Hemenway Park in Boulder City about 9 a.m. today, the Boulder City Police Department said.

The Izusu box truck owned by PRS Professional Roofing Services stopped at the First Stop gas station, 199 Ville Drive, en route to a job near Judy and Dee drives, but the driver neglected to put the vehicle into park, officer Dave Olson said.

The truck rolled out of the gas station, across Ville Drive, down the desert area and missed an electrical box by about five yards, Olson said.

The driver, Faustino Torres, 29, of Las Vegas, was inside the store.

"He said someone ran inside and said, 'Your truck's going down the street,'" Olson said.

Torres tried to chase the vehicle, but without luck, Olson said.

There were no injuries and the only damage was to the city's fence, said Olson, who added, "I haven't seen anything like this in a while."

Torres has been cited for destruction of property and failure to pay full-time attention, Olson said.
