Vegas Epicure:

Local Italian joint has old-time flair

Greetings, Vegas epicures.

Are you nostalgic for old Vegas? Head right over to Capo, an old Vegas Italian restaurant at 5675 W. Sahara Ave. Owner Nico Santucci has included his sense of humor to go with his latest contribution to the Vegas dining scene.

You'll enter through a phone booth. The dining room is dark and retro, filled with black leather booths, crystal chandeliers and period furniture. Live entertainment will be warbling 50's romantic tunes while you dine.

The food is retro as well. Italian sausage stuffed banana peppers, bearing the name Joe Bananas, are delicious, and so are the stuffed mushroom caps, shrimp scampi, and Italian style steaks. Be sure to try the homemade tiramisu for dessert. Open for dinner only. Call 364-2276 for a table.

This Sunday, anyone in the mood for a fabulous brunch need look no further than the Ritz-Carlton Lake Las Vegas, which is hosting its annual spread from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is a splurge, at $85 for adults and $30 for children aged 3 to 12. You'll get delicacies such as crab risotto, herb crusted leg of lamb, seafood on the shell, lobster ravioli and a raft of award winning desserts. The address is 1610 Lake Las Vegas Parkway. The number for reservations is 567-4700.

The Wynn has recently launched A Taste of Wynn, so it's now possible to eat two and three course dinners, generally between 5 and 7 p.m. at a number of their top restaurants.

At Wazuzu, for instance, chef Jet Tila's killer Asian bistro, a three-course menu is only $29, and you can have Thai papaya salad, teriyaki beef bowl in a housemade ice cream or sorbet at that price. Bartolotta is $75, and one can even eat at the exclusive Two Michelin Star Alex for $95. Wow!
