WASHINGTON -- Republican Sue Lowden’s campaign to oust Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will begin running television ads next month as she tries to establish herself as the frontrunner in a wide field of Republican primary challengers, sources said.

Lowden’s ads planned for February are an early start for the former Nevada Republican Party official whose aspirations for frontrunner status could be jeopardized if Republican Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki jumps into the race.

Lowden’s campaign spokesman confirmed, “We have already cut ads and we intend to be on television very soon.”

Reid launched a series of early ads in the fall as the embattled majority leader sought to reconnect with Nevada voters who are not enthused about his re-election.

Lowden would be the first Republican contender on air.
