May Day brings sunshine to Las Vegas

Temperatures to climb into mid 70s today

Put on your sunglasses and head outdoors -- Las Vegas will get a May Day basket of sunshine, although temperatures will bloom only into the mid 70s today.

A dry northerly flow of air will persist across the region through Sunday, keeping temperatures about 10 degrees below normal for this time of year, according to the National Weather Service.

A disturbance is moving through Utah Sunday that will bring an increase in northerly winds, with locally breezy conditions, the weather service said.

Temperatures will finally warm up to near normal by Monday as a dry westerly flow develops, they said.

At 5:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 58 degrees, which is the normal low for today's date. The record low was 41 degrees, set in 1967.

Around the valley just before 7 a.m., temperatures were 59 at McCarran, 58 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 57 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 58 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 64 degrees by 9 a.m., to 70 degrees by noon and reach a high of 74 degrees by 4 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 83 degrees and the record high was 102 degrees, set in 1947.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 72 degrees by 6 p.m., to 66 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 62 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Sunday's morning low will be 57 degrees and Sunday's high will climb to 76 degrees, they said.
