Sunny but cooler today in Las Vegas

Temperatures to be about 10 degrees below Tuesday and Wednesday’s highs

Say goodbye to the 90s for a while. Cooler temperatures and breezy conditions are moving into Las Vegas today, according to the National Weather Service.

Skies will be sunny and temperatures will reach only into the upper 70s and low 80s today as a cold front moves in, the weather service said. That will be about 10 degrees cooler than Tuesday and Wednesday, when the afternoon highs reached into the low 90s across the valley.

Winds are expected to be up to 15 mph from the north northwest today, with gusts as high as 22 mph, forecasters said. This morning winds were gusting as high as 40 mph at North Las Vegas Airport.

A warming trend moves in Friday with the high reaching 83 degrees, forecasters said. Saturday's afternoon high will be near 87, they said.

South to southwest winds will increase Saturday afternoon as a low pressure system approaches the coast, forecasters said.

The low pressure system will bring cooler temperatures Sunday and Monday, with showers spreading acrosss parts of the area, mainly north of Las Vegas, they said.

At 4:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 64 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 60 degrees. The record low was 43 degrees, set in 1964.

Around the valley just before 6 a.m., temperatures were 65 degrees at McCarran, 68 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 65 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 63 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 70 degrees by 9 a.m., to 75 degrees by noon and reach a high of 79 degrees by 4 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 84 degrees and the record high was 103 degrees, set in 1947.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 78 degrees by 6 p.m., to 72 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 68 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Friday's morning low will be 60 degrees and Friday's high will climb to 83 degrees, they said.
