Warm weekend ahead for Las Vegas

Breezy conditions moving in Saturday and Sunday

Las Vegas will get a sunny and warm start to the weekend, with temperatures climbing to 80 degrees today, according to the National Weather Service.

A dry west-to-southwest flow will result in warming temperatures and clear skies through Saturday, the weather service said.

Winds will increase Saturday afternoon as a low pressure system approaches the coast, forecasters said. Southwest winds are expected Saturday up to 20 mph, with gusts up to 29 mph. Temperatures will climb about five degrees above normal, into the upper 80s, forecasters said.

As the low pressure system arrives Sunday and Monday, temperatures will be cooler and climb into only the low 80s Sunday and into the mid 70s on Monday, forecasters said. Breezy conditions are expected Sunday, with southwest winds up to 22 mph, gusting as high as 33 mph, forecasters said.

At 5:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 57 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 60 degrees. The record low was 41 degrees, set in 1938.

Around the valley just before 6 a.m., temperatures were 56 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 58 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 55 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 66 degrees by 9 a.m., to 74 degrees by noon and reach a high of 80 degrees by 3 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 85 degrees and the record high was 102 degrees, set in 1989.

Temperatures are expected to be 80 degrees at 6 p.m., then drop to 75 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 71 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Saturday's morning low will be 63 degrees and Saturday's high will climb to 88 degrees, they said.
