Las Vegas to hit upper 70s today

Warmer temperatures moving in for the weekend

Skies will be mostly sunny, winds will be light and temperatures will be in the upper 70s today for Las Vegas, according to the National Weather Service.

An area of lingering low pressure and limited mid-level moisture will hold over the region through Friday, the weather service said.

The pattern will keep isolated showers over southern Nevada and northwest Arizona this afternoon and evening, with possible showers in the mountains, forecasters said.

High pressure will then build over the region going into the weekend, allowing temperatures to rise above normal, they said. Afternoon highs will be 82 degrees on Friday, 87 degrees Saturday and 91 degrees Sunday, they said.

At 5:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 59 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 62 degrees. The record low was 45 degrees, set in 1953.

Around the valley just before 6 a.m., temperatures were 58 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 59 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 52 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 67 degrees by 9 a.m., to 74 degrees by noon and reach a high of 78 degrees by 4 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 87 degrees and the record high was 103 degrees, set in 1996.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 77 degrees by 6 p.m., to 71 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 66 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Friday's morning low will be 60 degrees and Friday's high will climb to 82 degrees, they said.
