Clark County names new assistant manager

Randall J. Tarr, Clark County’s director of Real Property Management, was named Thursday as the county’s assistant manager.

County Manager Virginia Valentine appointed Tarr. County commissioners are scheduled to ratify the appointment at their June 1 meeting.

“The county is dealing with a number of challenges brought on by local and national economic conditions,” Tarr said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to working with Virginia, the commission and the departments to address these issues and others before us.”

Tarr replaces Phil Rosenquist, who retired April 30 after working for the county for nearly 20 years.

Tarr has led the county’s property management division for 2 1/2 years. Previously he worked for Lewis Operating Corp., KB Home, North Las Vegas’ Public Works department and Carter Burgess Inc.

“Randy brings a wealth of knowledge and diverse experience in dealing with large projects and development issues,” Valentine said. “He will be a great addition to our management team.”

Tarr will be one of two assistant managers. A third assistant manager position has been vacant since Darryl Martin left the county last year.

The new assistant manager will oversee the departments of Public Works, Comprehensive Planning, Development Services, Business License and Air Quality and Environmental Management.

He also will be the county manager’s representative to the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, the Regional Flood Control District and the Southern Nevada Health District.

Tarr has a degree in civil engineering from UNLV and is a registered professional engineer in Nevada.
