Court rejects appeal of man who killed Canadian tourist in 1994

CARSON CITY – A federal appeals court has refused to reconsider its previous decision to deny the bid of a killer who is serving five life terms for the murder of a Canadian tourist and the robbery of his wife in Clark County.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said Friday the court didn't want to take another look at the case of Patrick H. Randle, now 52, serving his sentence at the Southern Desert Correctional Center.

Randle’s case has been before the Nevada Supreme Court four times.

The federal appeals court turned down his petition last August because he filed his appeal past the legal deadline. The court said the judges didn't want to reconsider the previous decision. It also said he can't file any more petitions for re-hearing.

He was convicted of the fatal shooting of Roger Champagne and robbing his wife, Lorette, in the Sam’s Town RV Park on May 24, 1994.

Three of the five life terms are without possibility of parole.
