Las Vegas to hit mid 80s today

Warm and sunny for the weekend, forecasters say

Say goodbye to those afternoons in the 70s.

Las Vegas is heading into a stretch of warmer weather, with temperatures reaching the mid 80s today and the upper 80s and low 90s over the next few days, according to the National Weather Service.

A low pressure system will slowly move away to the east today and a ridge of high pressure will develop over the west this weekend, providing a dry, warm weather pattern into next week, the weather service said.

Clouds are expected to build up over the mountains today, possibly bringing a few light showers that will produce trace amounts of rain, forecasters said.

They said afternoon temperatures are expected to reach normal levels, in the upper 80s, on Saturday and go above normal into the 90s on Sunday. No significant winds are expected through the weekend, they said.

At 5:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 63 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 62 degrees. The record low was 45 degrees, set in 1998.

Around the valley just before 6 a.m., temperatures were 61 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 60 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 56 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 70 degrees by 9 a.m., to 78 degrees by noon and reach a high of 84 degrees by 3 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 87 degrees and the record high was 106 degrees, set in 1937.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 82 degrees by 6 p.m., to 76 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 71 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Saturday's morning low will be 65 degrees and Saturday's high will climb to 87 degrees, they said.
