State energy office extends deadline for appliance rebates

The Nevada State Office of Energy this week has extended the deadline for people who've made reservations for appliance rebates to mail in their applications.

All applications will now be taken through June 15.

The Energy Office handed out 15,497 reservations for the program, under which people can get up to $200 for replacing an old appliance with an Energy Star model.

Because of the high participation in the program, some retailers had to schedule deliveries of appliances two to three weeks after purchase, which kept people from sending in their paperwork on time.

“We still want to encourage people to get their rebates in as soon as possible,” said Energy Office Project Manager Catherine Gowen.

There is now a waiting list for the next round of incentives. The office described the chances for getting a rebate this time around "excellent."

“Once participants get a waiting list confirmation, they can purchase their appliance and send in their paperwork,” Gowen said. “When the waiting list rebates are released, those on the waiting list will receive their rebates based on when their paperwork was received, not on when they actually got on the list.”
