All aboard the LA-to-Vegas party train

The chips are real, even if the casino’s moving.

Forget high speeds, beating traffic and all that emissions mumbo jumbo. Renderings of the proposed X Train that would connect Las Vegas to LA in 2011 make one thing very clear: This train is here to party.

At least they're planning on supplying the drunken passengers with some helpful Vegas-based reading.

While the X Train wouldn’t make the trip across the desert any faster — the proposed route would actually take longer than driving, clocking in at five-and-a-half hours with tickets going for $99 round trip — the rail would have a distinct focus on giving passengers a taste of Vegas before they ever hit the Strip. In the X Train’s renderings, specialty cars appear to contain full bars, casino-style gaming and sports bars. With some quality reading on the table in the form of a Vegas magazine, the only thing missing is a scantily clad server and a bottle of over-priced Grey Goose to make the train feel just like home.

Of course, if Vegas isn’t your home, a pseudo casino experience is just what you need for the five-plus-hour trip to Vegas. By the time you reach your hotel, you’ll already have a sweet hangover and be $200 down on the blackjack table.
