Warmer weekend ahead for Las Vegas

Temperatures to climb into the upper 80s today, forecasters say

Sunny skies and warmer temperatures are on tap for this weekend in Las Vegas, according to the National Weather Service.

A ridge of high pressure is moving across region this weekend, sending today's afternoon temperature into the upper 80s and Sunday's high close to 90 degrees, the weather service said.

Then a Pacific low pressure system in expected to drop into the Great Basin Monday night and Tuesday, forecasters said.

That low pressure system will lead to increasing southwest winds Monday, followed by moderate coooling and unsettled weather Tuesday into Wednesday, forecasters said.

At 6:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 66 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 63 degrees. The record low was 44 degrees, set in 1968.

Around the valley just before 7 a.m., temperatures were 68 degrees at McCarran, 64 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 66 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 62 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 73 degrees by 9 a.m., to 81 degrees by noon and reach a high of 86 degrees by 3 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 87 degrees and the record high was 107 degrees, set in 1937.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 84 degrees by 6 p.m., to 78 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 73 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Sunday's morning low will be 67 degrees and Sunday's high will climb to 90 degrees, they said.
