Coroner IDs store clerk killed in shoot-out

Updated Monday, May 17, 2010 | 1:05 p.m.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office on Monday identified a man who was shot and killed during a Saturday night shoot-out at a northwest Las Vegas convenience store.

William L. Burhoe, 77, of Las Vegas, who was the clerk at the convenience store, was taken to the hospital, where he died of a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the coroner’s office.

The shooting was reported about 11:30 p.m. Saturday at Supermart on Smoke Ranch Road near the U.S. 95 freeway.

Authorities say the robber shot Burhoe, but before he died of the wound the clerk grabbed a gun and shot and killed the robber at the scene.

The would-be robber’s name was not being released by the coroner Monday afternoon.

There were at least two customers in the store at the time of the shooting. Neither of them was hurt.
