Updated Tuesday, May 18, 2010 | 12:26 p.m.

Fatal crash

A man is in serious condition after his van crashed into three vehicles and a pole on Sahara Avenue this morning.

Kirk Mitchell, 55, of Henderson, was driving his 2003 Ford Econoline eastbound on Sahara Avenue at 7:50 a.m. when his car struck three vehicles that were stopped at a red light at the intersection of Sahara and Fremont Street.

After striking the vehicles, the Ford struck a signal light pole, police said.

Susan Alesevich, 67, of Las Vegas, was stopped at the light in her 1997 Dodge Caravan. She suffered minor injuries.

The drivers of the other vehicles – 19-year-old Jessie Gray of Las Vegas, who was driving a 1997 Toyota Celica, and Sigifredo Zavala-Terriquez, 67, of Las Vegas, who was driving a 1998 Nissa Maxima – weren't injured.

Mitchell was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center's trauma unit, police said. Police are investigating whether a medical condition could have played a role.

CORRECTION: Police reported Tuesday morning that the accident involved a fatality, but investigators said in an accident report that no one was fatally injured in the crash. | (May 18, 2010)
