Passenger traffic falls 5 percent in April at McCarran

Passenger traffic at McCarran International Airport was down 5 percent last month compared to April 2009, airport officials said Friday.

During the month, the airport reported serving 3,384,741 passengers compared to 3,563,918 in the same month last year.

In the first four months of this year, the airport has had 12,736,494 people arrive or depart, a 3.9 percent decrease for the same period last year, when the airport had seen 13,254,969 passengers.

Southwest Airlines, McCarran's largest carrier, saw traffic drop 2.1 percent for April, when it had 1,315,853 passengers.

One airline that saw an increase in traffic was Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air, which had an increase of 8.8 percent when compared to April 2009. Allegiant was the sixth-busiest carrier at the airport, serving 627,892 passengers so far this year.
