St. Rose Dominican Hospitals – Rose de Lima Campus in Henderson has obtained a new General Electric “wide bore” magnetic resonance imaging machine. St. Rose says the machine has a much larger opening and shorter tunnel length than other MRI machines, making it more accessible and comfortable for patients. With improved software capabilities, the machine can provide results in 10 to 20 minutes versus typical machines taking 30 minutes to one hour. Until recently, MRI was primarily used to produce images of the head, neck and spine. Newer MRI machines with advanced computer programs can produce high-quality images of the body’s bone structure as well as soft tissues such as the heart and blood vessels; kidneys and urinary tract; abdominal organs such as the liver, spleen and gallbladder; and reproductive organs.
