Las Vegas DMV offices to cut services on Saturday

CARSON CITY – The state Department of Motor Vehicles says it will be offering only limited customer service at its four Las Vegas offices this coming Saturday.

A planned national computer outage in the Social Security network means the state won’t be able to issue any first-time Nevada driver’s licenses, instruction permits or identification cards, or process any changes in the motorist’s name, date of birth or social security number.

But the offices in Las Vegas and one in Reno will be open to issue duplicate licenses, address changes and vehicle registration. The department will also honor those who have made appointments for driving tests.

The state agency uses the Social Security online verification to combat identity theft and fraud. It allows the state to verify the applicant’s name, date of birth and Social Security number.

Offices in rural Nevada are closed on Saturdays.

All offices will be closed Monday on Memorial Day.
