Ex-GOP official convicted again in Las Vegas slayings

A former Clark County Republican Party official has been convicted again in the murder-for-hire slayings of his wife and her father in Las Vegas in 2004.

A prosecutor said Wednesday that a jury took just 90 minutes to find 41-year-old John Chartier guilty of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of conspiracy.

Chartier faces at least 40 years and the possibility of life in prison without parole at sentencing June 21.

Chartier won a new trial when the Nevada Supreme Court ruled in 2008 that he shouldn't have been tried at the same time as David Lee Wilcox in the stabbing deaths of Rachel Bernat and her father, Carlos Aragon.

Chartier and Bernat had been involved before the slayings in a bitter custody dispute over their son.
