Puebla’s Herculez Gomez, right, celebrates his goal while playing for Puebla during a Mexican soccer league match against Cruz Azul. Gomez is part of the United States World Cup roster.

Herculez Gomez, a former Las Vegas High standout, was selected today for the United States' 23-man World Cup soccer roster.

Gomez solidified his chances Tuesday when he scored in the second half of the team's 4-2 loss to the Czech Republic in an exhibition match.

He was one of four forwards selected by coach Bob Bradley, who cut his training camp roster from 30 players.

Gomez, 28, was the first American-born player to lead Mexico's Premier Division in scoring, tallying 10 goals this year for Puebla F.C.

He was a surprise addition to the player pool May 11, earning a spot for his goal-scoring ability. Now, he could see time on the pitch June 11 when the United States opens against England.

His goal Tuesday, in just his third national-team appearance, was the highlight of Tuesday's loss.
