Woman rescued, 3 displaced after garage fire

Garage Fire

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue is investigating the cause of a garage fire that occurred Saturday night near the intersection of Sahara Avenue and Valley View Boulevard.

The fire department received several calls about 10:45 p.m. about a garage fire in a single-family home at 4204 Via Vaquero Ave. A fire investigator who was on his way to another call noticed the flames so he stopped at the home.

When he arrived, he could hear someone crying inside the home. He went inside and saw three people sitting in the living room. A woman with a medical condition was lying on the floor and the others were trying to help her get out of the house, investigators said.

Other firefighters arrived at the scene and were able to get the woman out of the home, then she was taken to a hospital for the medical condition.

The other two adults who lived in the home weren't injured. The fire took about 15 minutes to extinguish, officials said. The home wasn't equipped with sprinklers.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials say it appears to be accidental in nature. Investigators estimate that the fire caused about $50,000 in damage.
