Medical Spa at Summerlin files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

The Medical Spa at Summerlin

The Medical Spa at Summerlin, a high-profile cosmetic procedure business, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization Tuesday in Las Vegas.

The business, which opened next to Summerlin Hospital in 2003, was in the news last year when Tracy Hurst, who controls the business, charged in a lawsuit that the spa was being used after hours for clandestine procedures.

Hurst had sued a former employee and the employee's retired cosmetic-surgeon husband, who denied the allegations. That litigation continues in Clark County District Court, with the defendants Nancy Vinnik and her husband, Dr. Charles Vinnik, pursuing a counterclaim against Hurst.

Hurst was also in the news when a controversy erupted over whether Nevada medical assistants should be allowed to give injections for procedures as routine as flu shots or as complicated as Botox injections.

Hurst couldn't immediately be reached for comment on the bankruptcy filing by spa owner The Medical Spa LLC.

The filing listed assets ranging up to $50,000 against liabilities of $500,000 to $1 million.

Creditors include several drug suppliers, law firms and the IRS.
