Metro Police arrested a man Wednesday suspected of shooting and killing 31-year-old Gerald Hirai in the eastern valley more than a year ago.

Ricky Saldana was charged with homicide, police said. He is being held in the Clark County Detention Center.

Police responded to a shooting July 11, 2009, on Sahara Avenue and Nellis Boulevard, where they found Hirai with gunshot wounds in the driver's seat of a vehicle. Hirai died several days later at Sunrise Trauma.

Detectives determined Hirai had been driving in the area when suspects inside a light-colored pickup truck fired from their vehicle at the victim, striking him once, police said.

Officials ask anyone with information about the homicide to call the Metro Police homicide section at (702) 828-3521 or Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555 or visit www.crimestoppersofnv.com.
