You’d expect a badass girl group to come out of California or Oregon, but Ohio? Packing a punch all the way from that Midwestern state, Vanity Theft singer Alicia Grodecki hit the Bunkhouse Saturday night with catchy vocals and just the right amount of rock ’n’ roll attitude.
“This is our second time in Vegas,” Grodecki says, her white keyboard slung around her neck. “Don’t ask us about the last time ’cuz I’m not sure if we remember it. I’m pretty sure we ended up at a strip club.”
My first thought? Vanity Theft is picking up where bands like The Donnas left off. But influences like The Faint, Metric and Sleater-Kinney are more discernible during their live performances.
Opening locals The Forget Me Nows bring the crowd back to the ’90s with a humor-filled punk set. Those who remember The Vandals’ Hitler Bad, Vandals Good will appreciate a similar combination of comical topics, from Satan to Tabasco, in the Nows’ energetic pop-punk.
