A house fire Sunday morning near Rancho Drive sent three adults to the hospital with minor smoke inhalation, fire officials said.

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue crews responded about 9:06 a.m. to the blaze at 2005 Embrey Avenue, north of Alta Drive.

Firefighters arrived to see smoke and flames coming from the home’s windows, officials said. The fire started in a den, which was previously a garage, in the one-story home.

Fire officials said three adults and a toddler were asleep when the fire began. An adult woke up coughing and found the bedroom filling with smoke.

The woman and toddler evacuated the house, while the other two adults attempted to stop the fire by throwing buckets of water in the room, officials said. They escaped when the fire’s intensity grew.

Fire investigators believe the electrical fire started in the area above the den’s drop ceiling. It was ruled accidental.

The fire gutted the den and caused minor smoke damage throughout the house, officials said. Fire investigators estimated the damage to be $35,000.

The adults were expected to be released from the hospital later today, and the toddler was not injured, officials said. A dog also escaped the fire unharmed, but firefighters could not find a large pet iguana that stay in the room.
